RCA: the President’s and parliament Members’ Mandate terms Extended
“We have to save the Central African Republic from crisis that was looming on the horizon, and we welcome the outcome of the vote”, the president of the National Assembly said.
The presidential and legislative elections originally scheduled for April 23 and then for May 16, 2010, are now indefinitely postponed, according to a decision announced on April 29 by President Bozizé.
The Collective of the Forces for Change (CFC), the opposition, has seized on May 5 last year, the Ombudsman of the Republic “for a political settlement of the crisis about the legitimacy of state power”. CFC had already decided to withdraw from the election process to protest against what it sees as a lack of preparation of presidential and parliamentary elections.
For its part, the government is requested to establish a space for dialogue with all entities involved in the electoral process to ensure a peaceful political climate, while the international community is urged to redouble their efforts and diligence in mobilisation of resources to resume the electoral process.
