Mali: Creation of a new political party

The actual President’s Supporters have created on July 17, 2010 in Bamako, a new political Party for Economic Development and Solidarity (PDES), two years ahead from the next presidential elections. The current Head of State, Amadou Toumani Touré, whose second mandate term will end by 2012 has already stated that he will not run for a third term.

For the moment, the PDES’s animators deny any projection for the 2012 Malian presidential, but their back idea is to be prepared to seat in the presidential chair once their mentor, President Amadou Toumani Touré is no longer in the race, and inherit the legacy.
Actually, the governing body configuration of the PDES Party is composed at least by twenty vice-presidents, and five acting ministers. Its president, Hamed Diane Semega is currently Minister of Public Works, and the vice president is the influent Malian businessman, Jamil Bittar.
It is well known that “he, who wants to be successful in politicsIt, needs to have resources, but also activists and supporters. That’s probably why in the 2012 perspective, Bacary Togola, an important Malian farmer has been also co-opted.
But the other Malian political parties, such as the ruling party, the Alliance for Democracy in Mali (ADEMA), or the Rally for Mali (RPM) of the former Prime Minister, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, said they were ready to compete and challenge the new party, and they are preparing to initiate hostilities.
