DRC: The brave battle
Wednesday, December the 7th was a glorious day for Etienne Tshisekedi. The All-Kinshasa came out to greet the triumphant opponent of all the country regimes. The activists and the supporters of the Democratic Union for Social Progress (UDPS) party are happy because their champion came back from Brussels recovering from a serious and long illness to be thought dead.
Then, they are especially pumped because Tshisekedi will seek the highest office of the country, in November 2011. Although many activists and some of his inner circle are still angry after him when he dropped to run for the presidential elections in July 2006, and refused to participate when he could, at that time, easily toss Kabila’s son. 5 years later, here is Tshisekedi who decided to come back, organising a knighthood conference on the 11 and 12 December 2010 and planning for a campaign until November 2011. Everything though is indicating that Tshisekedi really wants to take over the power from the incumbent government in place, armed with his assurance and heritage of a historical opponent who thinks his time has come, as is the case of Alpha Condé in Guinea. But some political experts of Central Africa are all convinced that the scenario would be all real, if only the UDPS leader had gone to the arena, but ten years ago…
