10 bodies of slain policemen recovered in southern Nigeria
The decaying bodies of 10 out of the 12 policemen killed by militants at the weekend were recovered in oil-rich Bayelsa Sate in southern Nigeria, authorities announced on Tuesday.
The bodies were deposited at the Federal Medical Center in Yenagoa, the state capital, on Tuesday.
Journalists were barred from the hospital morgue, but the stench from the one ambulance used in conveying the bodies confirmed the recovery.
A police source confirmed the number of the bodies to the journalists but declined to give more details.
The 12 policemen were killed in their boat on their way to a function along a river of the state.
Nigeria’s main militant group said on Sunday they killed more than 15 security forces during a fierce gunfight at Azuzama area of the state.
