Morocco is “a stabilization force” in the region, said U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Friday in Rabat, stressing that Morocco and the USA are standing side by side to reinforce regional security.

Morocco, through its engagement for security and the efficiency of its armed forces, is “a stabilization force” in the region, said Kerry at the opening of the second session of the U.S.- Morocco strategic dialogue which he co-chaired with Moroccan minister of foreign affairs Salaheddine Mezouar.

He also underscored Morocco’s “proactive” role in fighting terrorism and extremism in the world, adding that United States is deeply engaged in the reforms conducted in Morocco.

Mezouar called for evolved strategic partnership with the United States, taking into account the new global geostrategic realities.

“The atmosphere of confidence and understanding existing between Morocco and the U.S. is giving us more confidence regarding our mutual capacity to build an evolved strategic partnership that takes into account the new global geostrategic realities”, he said.

Speaking to reporters after the opening session Kerry said that the Obama administration will evaluate its role in foundering Middle East peace talks following negative steps by both Israel and the Palestinians that have brought the negotiations to virtual collapse.

“We are going to evaluate very carefully exactly where this is and where it might possibly be able to go.” said Kerry.
