ISIL kills Christian Egyptians in Libya
In a very significant and alarming development , ISIL militants have released a video purporting to show the killings of 21 Christian Egyptians in Libya.
The video posted on the Internet on Sunday shows captives in orange jump suits being led to a beach by masked militants. They were forced to kneel and then killed.
Before the killings, one of the militants said “we will mix the sea with your blood.”
Egyptian media says the victims are Coptic Christians who were working in Libya. They had been held by militants claiming loyalty to the Islamic State group for weeks.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said his country would respond to the deaths.
In Libya, militants claiming loyalty to the Islamic State group attacked a hotel last month and occupied a radio station this month.
The video is apparently aiming to show that the militant group is expanding power in Libya. The country has been in turmoil since its dictator Muammar al-Qadhafi was overthrown and killed 3 years ago.
