Cameroon: AdfB releases 150 million euros for Nachtigal dam project
The African Development Bank (AdfB) has agreed to allocate 150 million euro for the Cameroonian government and its partners in the construction of Nachtigal dam, 65 km north of Yaounde expected to produce 420 megawatt.
The future dam will be built on Sanaga river already receiving two other dams.
The Cameroonian government is teaming up with France’s Eléctricité de France and World Bank subsidiary, SFI, for the project to cost a total of 1.05 billion euro.
The three partners will operate under Nachtigal Hydro Power Company (NHPC), an umbrella company regrouping the three.
Construction works of the future dam will start next year and energy production is slated for 2022.
The project will help the Cameroonian government increase the national electricity accessibility by 30 per cent.
Around 48 per cent of the country’s population has access to energy despite the fact that central African country accounts for the third Southern Saharan country with hydroelectric energy capacity, 12,000 megawatt.
