Japan’s Crown Prince leaves for Africa
Japan’s Crown Prince has left on his first visit to Ghana and Kenya on a 10-day tour to the African nations, which have close economic ties with Japan.
The Crown Prince left Haneda Airport in Tokyo for Ghana’s capital, Accra, on Saturday. Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama and other government officials saw him off.
He will meet Ghana’s President John Atta Mills and visit a research institute associated with prominent Japanese bacteriologist Hideyo Noguchi, who studied yellow fever in the African country in the 1920s.
In Kenya, he is expected to meet President Mwai Kibaki and view a sanctuary for wild animals.
The Crown Prince will also tour a rice-growing area that Japan is providing aid for.
He will return home on March 15th. His wife, Crown Princess Masako, is not accompanying the Crown Prince due to health reasons.
