Before the Constitution we have in the country, how did we come together? What was the instrument that bonded us together? It is this instrument of association that Nigerians have found faulty over time. How many constitutions have we had in this country with the exception of the Independence Constitution we had before Independence? In fact, the Independence Constitution was in 1959. A lot of it was even shepherded by the British, but you can still say that the politics of the leaders of that time was taken into consideration by the British and it gave us a regional parliamentary democracy which, of course, served the people quite well; it allowed for each region to appreciate the differences that exist among the coalition of people that constituted Nigeria. But after that, what we have had is the subversion of the Constitution by the military.
