RCA: Another election postponement in the pipeline

After an initial postponement from the initial date of April 25, the electoral calendar, setting presidential and legislative elections for May 16 in Central Africa, will undergo further change. This possibility has been raised two weeks ago by a presidency source.
The new delay could be either two weeks, or a period relatively somewhat longer. President Francois Bozizé should make a formal announcement during this week to communicate the reasons for this decision. “If confirmed, this is a reasonable delay,” said a diplomatic source in Yaoundé, referring to the constraints of the organisation that will help to hold the polls on May 16 in good conditions. Corroborating sources in Bangui show a delay in the production of election materials. Francois Bozizé was first elected in 2005, and will face former President Ange-Felix Patassé, ousted by a military coup in March 15, 2003. Apart from electing their president, Central Africans will also go to the polls to renew their Parliament.
