Sahel: the Flintlock 10 practical phase has began

In 2004, the United States of America started the trans-Saharan partnership in order to combat terrorism, which is building up, in the countries of the Sahel and the Maghreb, because of the ignorance of people, bringing more fears of injustice, humiliation and misunderstanding.

The ongoing “Operation Flintlock 2010” is an event that will enable participating countries to demonstrate their commitment in combating terrorism and crime in the Sahel-Sahara region.
The operational part is to train and constitute small multinational units, involving U.S special operation forces and the military of partner nations. The civil-military part is also on the agenda and highly considered.
These combined land exercises include Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal, Nigeria, Chad, Europe, and the U.S. They take place from 3 to 23 May and count about 1,200 soldiers, including 600 Americans, 400 Africans and 150 Europeans engaged in these exercises, placed under the joint command of AFRICOM and the African Special Operations.
On the naval theatre, the U.S. Africa Command is conducting a maritime counter-insurgency exercise, scheduled to end on May 7, titled Phoenix Express-2010. The exercise is teaming U.S. personnel with Morocco and Senegal. Officials said AFRICOM has been facilitating exercises and training to Morocco and other regional states, including the use of air operations to battle illegal immigration as well as narcotics and weapons trafficking. The U.S. Navy envisions participation by Morocco and other allies in joint maritime security patrols in the Mediterranean and Atlantic Ocean.
