capsatThe ‘Plan B’ put forward by the President of the High Authority of the Transition (HAT, Rajoelina, to extricate the country from the crisis has not yet been endorsed by the Armed Forces. Rajoelina met again Wednesday in Antananarivo with the main officials of the Armed Forces, namely, the commander of the Gendarmerie, the Army Chief of Staff and other high ranked Technical officers.
General Razafindrakoto Bruno, commander of the Gendarmerie said that no statement has yet been released so far and we do not yet know when we are going to do it. But some indiscretions leaked out, stating that the Army is not at all ready to integrate the military-civilian government. In any case, the Gendarmerie will always stand with the Army, General Bruno Razafindrakoto revealed.

The communication department of the HAT, in turn, said that consultations will open with the various political forces in Madagascar, as to bypass a possible turnaround of the military.   The main objective of this consultation is to identify ways and means for holding free and transparent elections to succeed the advent of the Fourth Republic, it was said.
Nonetheless, these tactical shifts of Rajoelina and his team, between the military and other political forces, might backfire and the spillovers might be too heavy to tackle in an already complex situation.
