About ten servicemen – former chiefs of staff of various units under Captain Moussa Dadis Camara’s regime – were convened 48 hours ago to the gendarmerie of Matam where they are always retained.

Forty eight hours after their questioning, by the new military authorities, these former officers of the Guinean army do not still know the motives of their arrest; Colonel Oumar Saloh former deputy Chief of staff and his companions of misfortune, among whom colonel Alpha Osmane Diallo, the former Navy assistant chief of Staff, David Haba of the cabinet of the Ministry of Defense, Osmane Kaba of the army, are always retained in the premises of the Gendarmerie of Matam in Conakry, the capital.
No answer to why these people have been arrested is given yet, so the fever rises and the anxiety grows among the various families of these officers. Some people are accusing the actual deputy Chief of staff, colonel Thiam to settle “some old affairs and accounts”…
In two weeks the most opened presidential election, never organised in Guinea, is going to take place, then  “it is useless to create tensions which can prevent the holding of this election by violating the liberties of others”, a defence of human rights NGO commented.
