Benin: A “model” which could indeed inspire other countries.

The General Secretary of the United Nations considered that the presidential elections of the next year in Benin will be a “test” for its democracy. “I am convinced that all will be as successful as in previous times “, he said.
During his stay in Benin, Ban Ki-moon met with all the political class tendencies of the country, with whom he exchanged his preoccupations relative to the preparation of the next ballots’ electoral rolls, the consolidation of democracy and rule of law.
The UN Secretary-General underlined, to have exchanged with the Head of the State, Boni Yayi, questions connected to the climate change and to the realisation of the objectives of the development millennium.
According to Ban Ki-moon, Benin also realised important progress in the field of childhood care, Maternity and of the education. ” What I saw warmed my heart “, he declared, inviting the authorities to emphasize on more efforts in the domain gender equality and the fight against motherhood mortality.
Ban Ki-moon left Cotonou on Monday, greeted by his host who said to the UN Secretary-General “all the pride felt by the Beninese people, and were “honoured” to have welcomed him on in their soil”.
