Guinea Conakry: Wise decision to free the detained officers

Officially, we know the reason for which about ten Guinean officers of the army, close to the ex-leader of the junta, had been deprived of their freedom before being released. According the Guinean army chief of staff, Colonel Nouhou Tiam, the officers had been called and kept at the gendarmerie for clarifications on their management of the army when they were working for Moussa Dadis Camara.

And as nothing was found “opaque” in their management, they were thus released without any explanation as at the time of their arrest. “All those who had seen political reasons in these questionings had heavily made a mistake”, colonel Thiam has declared.
However, we would not like to believe naively in this version, freshly served by the colonel. These arrests are hard to dissociate from the context of suspicion that the partisans of Dadis Camara are still sidelining their leader.
The version of chief of staff could really score if there were other persons arrested, but not only the pro-Dadis. It is difficult that army management problems could explain the act, but serve only to mask better the truth. It would be better and trustful if only one of the blamed group could give his version. Nonetheless, the officers’ release was a wise decision …
