zenaniZenani Mandela, the great-granddaughter of Nelson Mandela and Winnie Madikizela Mandela, who was killed in a car accident last week, was laid to rest on Thursday.
The accident took place on her way home after attending the FIFA World Cup opening concert at Orlando Stadium, Soweto, outside Johannesburg. She died two days after celebrating her birthday.
Her death had a brunt on the opening of the FIFA World Cup in Johannesburg on Friday as Nelson Mandela, 91, South Africa’s first democratically elected president, cancelled his scheduled brief appearance at Soccer City stadium because of the family loss.

Local Medias in Johannesburg reported on Thursday that hundreds of mourners assembled in icy weather at the St Stithians Chapel located in Sandton, northern Johannesburg.
The funeral program, decorated with Zenani’s smiling face surrounded by hearts and pink rosebuds, declared “For an angel gone too soon”.
