Guinea: Concerns and enthusiasm
Everyone is predicting hiccups and problems on the voting day, as there are many difficulties in the delivery and distribution of the voter cards. The electoral commission has therefore initiated a race against time to get everything ready on Sunday June the 27th.
All of that legitimise some fears but also generate a great enthusiasm. However, in some neighbourhoods, the voter cards distribution has been delayed, because several heads of districts have retained the voter cards in relation to certain ethnic groups, as well as some bystanders have taken possession of these cards. But this was resolved, said the electoral commission.
Everyone knows that this vote will not be perfect, because of time and lack of organisation. Thus, “We do believe that the political parties will act responsibly, and will call on their supporters to ovoid use of violence to resolve their concerns, or let the candidates to settle their own discontent by themselves, depending on the first round results”, has said Mamadi Kaba, the human rights defence activist in Guinea.
