RCA: the disappearance of Massi
For his close relatives, Charles Massi died in December 2009, and president Bozizé and his son are behind his disappearance. For the Convention of the Patriots for Justice and Peace (CPJP) movement, only the truth about the death of rebel leader will enable to open negotiations with the government, and therefore to achieve peace.
“We ask the RCA authorities to put the light on the disappearance of Charles Massi. It is a vital condition for us, so that the peace can settle down durably in the country, offering the conditions of security and trust that may reign again to organise general and presidential elections”, Eric Neris-Massi, son of Charles Massi, had announced.
But for the Government spokesman, Fidèle Gouandjika, the rebellion is not in a position to dictate any condition. He added,
If today the new leaders of CPJP show their will to make peace, they have only to stop at once the hostilities, to lay down arms without conditions and then the government will study with them, the possibilities of concluding agreements of peace and integration of their fighters in the Disarmament, Demobilisation, Reintegration process… It is though legitimate to wonder where are the logic and the wisdom of not opening these peace negotiations, while the country is expected to vote in the coming months.
