Ivory Coast: The new provisional voter list is ready

By on July 15, 2010
The new provisional voter list is approved by the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI), and can be consulted, as early as Thursday, across the Ivorian territory and also in the embassies and the consulates of the Ivory Coast, retained during the operation of the electoral registration and identification of the population. The list will also be available on the website of the CEI.

The list is about 5.7 million potential voters and is the result of collaboration between all the technical operators involved in the electoral process, including the National Institute of Statistics (INS), the National Identification Office (ONI), the National Commission for the Supervision of Identification (CNSI) and the French private operator Sagem Security.
This listing should lead to the final voter list, after managing all the registration litigations on the electoral roll open since Monday by the CEI and the “verification” of the status of about 1.7 million people, under the leadership of the Prime Minister.
Now, “the processing work will go very quickly and smoothly”, the CIS President, Youssouf Bakayoko, has stated.
The door is now wide open to the implementation of the presidential elections, pending since 2005 for lack of political consensus and expected to end the long Ivorian crisis.
