Rwanda: The opposition leader, Victoire Ingabire, is accusing
Prosper Higiro and Alvera Mukabaramba. They are all three from political parties supporting the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF), in power since the genocide ended in 1994. “All candidates defend the campaign promises” of President Paul Kagamé. In the last presidential election of 2003, these three parties had supported the candidate of the RPF.
That is why the Rwandan opponent, Victoire Ingabire, is qualifying the presidential election of an “electoral farce” while the country is at “the brink of chaos”. She accused the international community of turning a blind eye to the crisis in Rwanda. “Some members of the international community and even a handful of activist diplomats are trying to give the current electoral farce some kind of credibility”, Ms. Ingabire said. She is the president of the opposition party, the United Democratic Forces (UDF), formed in exile. She is one of the fiercest opponents, who is under house arrest and banned from participating in Monday’s election. She is accused of denying the genocide of Tutsis in 1994 and for complicity in terrorism.
