Kenya: The U.N congratulations

The Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has commended Kenya for the adoption of the new Constitution through a referendum, saying it is “an important milestone” that will enable this East African country to address the “long-term challenges”.

The Secretary General addressed also his congratulations also to “all those who helped make this whole process, peaceful and well organised”.
the referendum held on August the 3rd, 67.25% of the Kenyan voters said yes to the new constitution, sweeping though all the fears of a violence experienced during the presidential election of 2007, that made about 1300 deaths.
“The United Nations will continue to support the government and people of Kenya in their efforts for reconciliation, accelerate the development and strengthening democratic institutions and governance in their countries”, the statement said.

A press release stated that “the United Nations welcomed the peaceful and the disciplinary applied all along the constitutional referendum process…”
