Nigeria: A nuclear plant within three years
“Competent and qualified Nigerians will be recruited and trained to participate fully in the program’s installation of nuclear power plant in the country”, the director general of the NAEC, Erepamo dare said. He noted that construction of nuclear plants in the country will take place after Nigeria has met the safety standards set by the international regulatory bodies. The agency therefore maintains that the construction of the first plant will not begin until the adequate manpower required to run the facilities will be permanently on the site. Mr. dared said that Nigeria has much to learn from “past experience when large industrial units were designed and constructed without the manpower required to operate them.” “This should not be the case regarding the installation of the nuclear energy program across the country”, he added. The NAEC has made considerable efforts and will allocate enough resources to recruit and train skilled Nigerian professionals in the sector.
