Western Sahara : Polisario’s head of police might be tortured after supporting Moroccan plan
It is believed by reliable sources active in the Western Sahara Region that Mustapha Salma Ould Sidi Mouloud, the 42 years old inspector general of Polisario Frente’s police might be arrested and put in jail based on false premises, and there are also fears that he would be submitted to torture by members of the Algerian security services, the “Direction Renseignement Securite” (DRS). Salma Ould Sidi Mouloud publicly supported the Moroccan plan during a press conference held in Smara in early august 2010, and stated that “In the past, we had two conflicting options:
either to integrate into Morocco or become independent. Today we have a third option that helps us achieve our main objective, which is the Sahrawi distinction.” Salma Ould Sidi Mouloud is the first prominent senior member of the Polisario Front that has been publicly supporting the Moroccan proposal for a large autonomy in Western Sahara and who decided to return to the Tindouf Refugees camps controlled by Polisario, despite serious threats concerning his security. Although nobody knows exactly his whereabouts since he left morocco, it is rumored that Moustapha Salma Ould Sidi Mouloud is stationed somewhere in the province of Zouirate in Mauritania, close to the borders with Algeria and Morocco. Omar Mansour and Brahim Ghali, two senior officers of the Polisario Front, stated recently that Salma Ould Sidi Mouloud should be considered as a “traitor”. Western Sahara is a former Spanish colony that was annexed by Morocco in 1975. The Algerian-backed Polisario Front is demanding independence for the region whereas Morocco is proposing a large autonomy.
