Libya: The Libyan leader’s chief of protocol arrested in France

The chief of protocol of the Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi was arrested and imprisoned in France at the request of the Libyan authorities who suspected him of embezzlement.

Presented to the general prosecutor of Versailles, Nouri Al-Mismari was placed under a pending detention, in consideration of an extradition request made by Libya, said the Chancellor. The date of consideration of this request by the instruction Board is not yet fixed, and the French justice is expecting Libya to send, within thirty days, the necessary documents. These documents should make particular proofs of alleged charges of misappropriation of funds against the accused person, the sources said. Nouri Al-Mismari was arrested “in a residence where he was staying temporarily. According to an acquainted source with the matter, Nouri Al-Mismar has always been present at all private and public appearances of the Libyan leader, and had fled to France to apply for a political asylum while he was being under warrant of arrest issued by Tripoli.
