Moroccan King’s strategic tour over GCC: Breaking the Conventional Geographical Barriers

HM King Mohammed VI has left on Tuesday Morocco heading to Saudi Arabia, first leg of an official working visit which will lead the sovereign also to Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which contribute to funding, in the form of grants, development projects in Morocco within the framework of the strategic partnership established in 2011 between the north African kingdom and the GCC.

HM King Mohammed VI, accompanied by HRH Prince Moulay Rachid, held on Wednesday at the royal palace of Jeddah, talks with the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia.

Saudi-Moroccan summit talks between Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah and King Muhammad focused on the worsening situation in Syria as well as the latest developments on the Palestinian front.

“The two leaders discussed major Arab and international issues including Syria and Palestine and explored prospects for strengthening cooperation between the two countries,” the Saudi Press Agency said.

The summit talks came following a meeting of Saudi and Moroccan ministers that discussed a number of development projects in Morocco, especially in the areas of agriculture, hotel business, transport and communication, health and education.

Finance Minister Ibrahim Al-Assaf said Saudi Arabia would finance a number of development projects worth $ 1.25 billion in Morocco through Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), on the instructions of King Abdullah.

He referred to the GCC decision to extend financial support to Morocco and Jordan, adding that four GCC countries including Saudi Arabia would take part in this program. According to the GCC decision, Morocco will receive a financial aid of $ 5 billion with the Kingdom’s share amounting to $ 1.25 billion, which will be extended through SFD.

He described Morocco as one of the best places for investment in the Arab world. The Saudi private sector currently invests in Morocco’s tourism, industry, agriculture and ports

After this very successful stay in Saudi Arabia, HM King Mohammed VI afterwards visited Jordan, where he visited the military field hospital set up by Morocco in the region of Zaatari to help the thousands of Syrian refugees fleeing the armed violence in their country.

During this highly strategic visit to Jordan, HM King Mohammed VI, Is expected to hold on Thursday, talks with His Majesty King Abdullah II on cooperation ties between the two countries and means to further foster them in many areas.

The two sovereigns will also examine the latest developments in the Middle-East, mainly the Syrian crisis and efforts seeking to find a just, comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue and the situation of Al Quds Asharif.

The monarch is leading a large delegation including the sovereign advisors, Omar Azziman, Zoulikha Nasri, Fouad Ali Al Himma and Yasser Znagui. The delegation also includes Foreign Minister, Saad El Dine Otmani, Minister of Economy and Finance, Nizar Baraka, Minister of Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Toufiq, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Aziz Akhannouch, Minister of Equipment and Transport, Aziz Rebbah, Minister of Health, Houcine El Ouardi, Minister of Energy, Mines, Water and Environment, Fouad Douiri, and General Abdelaziz Bennani, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the South Zone.
