MUJAO affirms it has taken control of Halil locality in Northern Mali
The Movement for Oneness and Jihad in West Africa (MUJAO) affirmed on Thursday that it had taken control of Halil locality which is situated near Mali’s border with Algeria.
A source from neighboring Ansongo town told on Friday that MUJAO asked residents whose properties had been taken away by MNLA fighters, to come and recover them after presenting the receipts.
Sources told that MUJAO had announced on Thursday that it had taken control of Halil locality which was initially in the hands of the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA).
The group further appealed to the residents whose motorcycles and vehicles had been stolen by MNLA to recover them by producing genuine receipts in Gao and Ansongo.
Residents of Gao and Ansongo cited MUJAO fighters who said that the battle to take control of Halil locality began on Wednesday.
Other well placed sources said that a similar announcement was made in all towns in the North of Mali, which are under the control of MUJAO, especially Gao and Ansongo.
Gao, Timbuktu and Kidal regions in the North of Mali remain under the control of rebel groups that include MUJAO and Ansar Dine.
