King Mohammed VI Launched Projects in Oued Laou to Boost its socio-economic development
King Mohammed VI launched, on Friday in the urban commune of Oued Laou, several structuring projects meant to boost the city’s socio-economic and urban development.
The Sovereign launched works for the building of a football stadium, the reconstruction of a central market, as well as the generalization of drinking water and liquid purification networks worth 57 million dirhams.
Mirroring the community-based policy advocated by the king, these projects will contribute to reinforcing the city’s attractiveness, protecting the environment, improving hygiene conditions and promoting economic and trade activities.
Aimed at strengthening the city’s sports infrastructure, the football stadium project (MAD 15 mln) will offer to young people an area to practice sports which will help the emergence of new talents. The stadium will comprise artificial turf, terraces, changing-rooms, a parking and parks.
The central market project (144 shops) seeks to ameliorate working conditions of shopkeepers, help peddlers settle, improve food safety and embellish the urban landscape. The project stretches over 3,293 square meters and is worth MAD 12 mln.
The project of the generalization of drinking water and liquid purification networks (30 mln MAD) is meant to address the challenge of urbanization, ameliorate populations’ lifestyle and preserve the environment.
The project, which will benefit 1,700 households, is forecast to bring the coverage rate to 99.9% by 2018.
On this occasion, King Mohammed VI visited the building site of the city’s wastewater treatment plant, a project launched by the sovereign in August 2012.
This plant, to be carried out over two phases, will ensure biologic treatment of wastewater through the process of activated sludge with tertiary filtration treatment and ultraviolet disinfection. After its completion, the plant will have a treatment capacity of 3,200 m3 daily by 2017.
