Voters in Scotland have rejected independence from the United Kingdom. Those voting “no” won by a clear majority in Thursday’s historic referendum.

Results were declared in all of the country’s 32 districts on Friday. The “no” camp won 2,001,926 votes; the “yes” camp, 1,617,989.

Votes against independence accounted for over 55 percent, more than 10 points ahead of those for breaking away.

The pro-independence camp won in Glasgow and 3 other districts. But support for the campaign failed to spread across Scotland.

Voter turnout reached nearly 85 percent.
