Somalie : Eritrea found guilty
The UN experts accused Asmara of causing trouble in Somalia but there is little chance that the Security Council intervene.
But in December, Great Britain and the United States, backed by Uganda, had lobbied for the adoption of limited sanctions on arms sales to Asmara and opened the way for sanctions against its leaders. This decision was taken in response to the apparent support of Eritrea for Islamist militias who are fighting against the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) in Mogadishu.
Hazardous concordance or not, the Security Council imposed military sanctions immediately after an escalation in the diplomatic relations between Eritrea and the United States of America. Some diplomats fear that such sanctions will exacerbate somewhat the feeling of isolation of Essayas and thus the ties between the Eritreans, Somalis and other stakeholders in the Horn of Africa and beyond.
