A.M.U: Business – Another way for alliance

An unprecedented event: a dozen Ministers of Economy, Investment, Industry and Commerce of the five Arab Maghreb Union countries (AMU) would meet on 10 and 11 May in Tunis. Nearly a thousand of North African businessmen will meet to explain the failure of the institution.
Jointly organised by the Maghreb Union of Employers (UME), which includes, since 2007, the five member countries (Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia) and the Tunisian Union of Industry, Commerce and the Crafts (UTICA), the forum promises to be very active and lively.
Under the high patronage of President Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali, the forum should be opened by the Tunisian Prime Minister Mohamed Ghannouchi. No doubt his Tunisian colleagues will attend. The Secretary General of the AMU, Habib Ben Yahia, and the presidents of the five countries employers’ associations will participate, but would the other Maghreb ministers attend this event? To date, only the name of Salaheddine Mezouar, Moroccan Minister of Economy and Finance appears on the official program list. The vice-governor of the Central Bank of Libya is also announced. But what’s about Algeria, the country that has always been reluctant to open its market…
