After several days of negotiations, the “Mai Mai” armed group has finally released eight hostages of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) who were abducted in the territory of Fizi, province of South Kivu.

According to the administrator of the Fizi territory, clashes between the refractory Mai Mai to integration and the Congolese Armed Forces (FARDC) are continuing in the province of South Kivu. The territorial authority has deplored the systematic looting of civilian property by attackers wearing uniform…
The psychosis of fear, by many observers, of the political situation in the DRC, the removal of the ICRC members and other NGOs, rapes and other violence reported in eastern DRC adequately show that the Congolese government and MONUC still have more work to do to achieve total pacification in eastern DRC.
It is also true that the “Mai-Mai” are not the only rebels, there are also other armed groups, as the Front for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), continuing to sow terror and death in this part of the DRC.
