Sudan: Bashir declared winner

The candidate Omar Hassan Ahmed al Bashir has won”, said president of the national electoral commission, Abel Alier, stating that he had obtained 68% of the vote.He has won the first multiparty presidential election held in Sudan.
In the poll, which took place over five days this month, the Sudanese were also called to elect governors and deputies, and the president of southern Sudan, a region that has a status of autonomy compared to the rest of the country. Salva Kiir has been president of southern Sudan in an overwhelming majority of 92.99%. Kiir will also assume the position of Vice President of Sudan and form a National North-South coalition government. A peace agreement was signed in 2005 between North and South, ending more than two decades of conflict.
