DRC: The Enyelé insurgents’ leader captured

By on May 7, 2010
“The Congolese Government announced, to the national and international attention, the capture of the terrorist group commander, Sieur Ondjani, by the population of Dongo (Province of Ecuador) this Wednesday, May 5, 2010. These rebels have  brought death and desolation in the district of South Ubangi before the sadly illustrated bloody assault in the city of Mbandaka, on 4 and 5 April last”, the spokesman of the government said.

The fetishist Ondjani is considered the leader of the Enyele tribe insurgents behind ethnic unrest in the Equateur province since the end of October 2009.  The April 4 Mbandaka attack seemed to have caught off guard the army and national police, allowing the rebels to achieve their specific objectives for conquering the Provincial Assembly, the residence of the Governor, including the airport. In the hours after the attack, the Congolese Army with the support of the MONUC led a counterattack that forced the rebels to escape.
