Guinea Conakry: The international community Warning

By on May 17, 2010
The International Contact Group (ICG) called on political leaders and activists to prevent any ethnic or racial abuse on the transition period leading to the presidential of June 27. While the electoral campaign is launched on May 17, the international community is concerned about the “bungling” of the National Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) and said to be “forced to intervene and have the presidential done in good manners”.

Even if the international community remains positive at this presidential election, it still has some concerns, and reminded though the Guinean political class about them. It asked all the political actors and militants to mobilise all their sources and means to ensure that no ethnic or racial drift would happen or might affect the climate of the democratic transition underway in the country. Diplomats accredited in Guinea explained that the artificial delay made by the INEC leaves no one indifferent. Among other accusations, these diplomats affirm today that the INEC should already display all the electoral lists and distribute half of all registered voters’ cards.
Prime Minister transition, announced the availability of about 20 billion Guinean francs to the INEC. He also announced the deployment of a special force of 16,000 men to secure the electoral process
