ahmed-sherifThe top UN official in Somalia said Monday he would fully support the Somali president Sheikh Ahmed Sharif in his decision on the government after the resignation of the Parliament Speaker, Sheikh Aden Madobe. Somalia’s speaker quit on Monday and the president, Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed, said he would appoint a new prime minister to succeed Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke.
In a statement, the UN special representative in Somalia said he would appreciate if the former speaker of parliament accepts the invitation of the President to join the new government.
“The president, facing a long and unnecessary crisis that diverts the resources, his energy and attention, took a bold and appropriate decision to resolve the situation”

Following an escalating disagreement in the Somali Transitional Federal Institutions, yet fragile, the President of Parliament criticised the Prime Minister about the difficulties facing the country. The Speaker then declared the resignation of the Somali government and submitted his resignation to the President of the country.
The political analysts warned that the escalation of this political quarrel in Somalia would incite the radical Islamist insurgents, including Al-Shabab movement, to activate new attacks to overthrow the government of President Ahmed Sharif. The president can count on the support of the United Nations and the international community in the current situation, said Mr. Ould-Abdallah; urging the international community to provide tangible support for the president and his future government. To this end, some flexibility is needed in the payment of international aid to make it faster and more efficient,” he indicated.
