The United States Ambassador to Madagascar, Niels Marquardt, stresses the need for another meeting between the four leaders, namely President of the High Authority Transition (HAT) Rajoelina and three former presidents Mark Ravalomanana, Didier Ratsiraka and Albert Zafy, to find a solution to the crisis in Madagascar.

“We have always supported international mediation and we continue to do so. We therefore support the statement released Friday urging the four leaders to resume negotiations, the U.S diplomat said.” Rajoelina”s decision to not attend the upcoming presidential election is a welcomed decision, but this alone is not enough for bringing out the country of the crisis. It is necessary to find the most consensual way around a table. The United States believes that the next Negotiations should always start on the basis of the Maputo agreements and the additional act of Addis Ababa.
The U.S. ambassador said that “we must think carefully before rejecting an international mediation offer. He also said that an international recognition of the new regime “can be found only through negotiation and consensus.
