Ivory Coast: headways and political uncertainties

By on June 8, 2010
New political operations open this week in Ivory Coast, and the main obstacles over which the current electoral process stumbles have names: check of the temporary electoral roll and disarmament of the ex-rebels.

The opposition refuses to audit the temporary electoral roll which the presidential camp calls for with all its wishes..
The presidential camp counter-attacks. « who he says that we should not audit this list, then it means that he does not like the Ivory Coast … “
However, the discussions between the president of the Republic, Prime Minister and the actors of the Ivory Coast political class resulted in an agreement at the end of last week; and everybody was able to agree of a methodology to check the temporary electoral roll and make sure that it does not contain fraud, had stated the Prime Minister Soro.
Rest the delicate question of disarming. All elements to be demobilized has already taken place in the military barracks, but it is still necessary to be able to pay to them five hundred thousand francs to those of them who would have gone for a settlement  option. However, The comments held outside the Afrique-France summit in Nice by the facilitator of the inter-Ivory Coast negotiations, the Faso president Blaise Compaoré, letting understand that he could withdraw if the elections were not held by the end of this year came to complicate a little more the Ivory Coast problem.
