The president of the electoral commission, Pierre Claver Ndayicariye, had called the candidates who withdrew from the race to cancel their decision. He recognised that there had been logistic problems during the ballot in, but were remedied.
He called back that the European Union observers asserted that the municipal elections had taken place in respect for the international standards. He voiced also that the international community representatives in Burundi regretted the of the opposition parties’ decision to withdraw from the presidential elections and called them to return on their decision.
