Ivory Coast: finally towards the reunification of the country
This operation was evoked for years but never realised. Now it is an effective beginning of this process of disarmament. 508 fighters of the ex-rebellion have joined the barracks at Korhogo to become members of the new Ivory Coast army. 223 others, considered unfit, joined for their part the process of demobilisation.
The new Forces Chief of staff , General Soumaïla Bakayoko, reminded that “the Political Ouagadougou Agreement stipulates clearly that “we have to appoint up to 5000 elements from the New Forces to be enrolled into the new Ivory Coast army”, And that will need an operating budget. We deeply wish this experience, which began in Korhogo, to be extended to the other three big cities of Man, Séguéla and Bouaké.
The spokesman of the New Forces (FN), Afoussy Bamba, declared that: «All enlisting persons will be administrated by the Ivory Coast State. They will receive an instruction and a military training, and will have a pay of 76 Euros every month “. For the demobilised or unfit persons, they have to go through various reintegration programs to resume the civil life.
