South Africa: World cup 2010, a mix of fears and alerts

By on June 21, 2010
The problems of security are a recurring theme of the World cup, between the rate of record criminality in South Africa and the possibilities of infringed terrorists.

Two episodes arisen on Sunday underline the ambient tension. On one hand, a rumor had circulated on a possible explosion in the Soccer stadium of Johannesburg City. In reality, the settled noise was due only to the normal activity of a company situated not far from the stadium.
On the other hand, a press room of the Green Point stadium at Cape City was evacuated following a bomb alert. The alarm was activated after a dog had been sensitive to the contents of a suitcase of one of the members of the Portuguese television RTP. Even there, it was a false alarm.
