Burundi: The opposition said it would boycott the elections in July
The spokesman for the coalition of 12 parties, Leonard Nyangoma, reiterated the demands of opposition parties: the dissolution of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and cancellation of the results of municipal elections of May 24, marred by widespread fraud opposition.
After announcing a boycott of the presidential June 28, the main opposition parties in Burundi have announced they do not participate in elections in July. Grouped within the Democratic Alliance for Change, these parties have called a “masquerade” the legislative elections next month.
Another development on the political scene: Agathon Rwassa, the head of the former rebel FNL, regarded as the main opposition leader, has disappeared.
