EAC: the East African Community eyed by Turkey
This block represents a population of 126.6 million and a GDP of 73 billion dollars, has started a development strategy consisting in progress from a customs union, then to a common market, a monetary union and will conclude in a political federation.
Turkey has expressed its interest in creating a regional free trade and investment between Turkey and the EAC; interest shown by the Turkish ambassador, Sander Gurbuz, who presented his credentials to the Secretary General of EAC. Negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement and a Framework Agreement for investment are planned for September of this year.
