A referendum for the adoption of a new Constitution will take place on October 31, 2010. It will followed by the local elections – municipal, departmental and regional. They will be held simultaneously on November 27, said the president of the CENI. He added that an “exceptional review” of the electoral register will continue until August 30, and a census of the voters, living abroad, will run until November 1, said Ghousmane.
All these election events are estimated to about 45 million Euros budget to be organised.
The swear in of the new president will conclude the transition period, of over one year, led by the junta leader, General Djibo Salou, who promised to return back the power to civilians.
A new electoral code was adopted in May by the junta, and a draft of the constitution should be considered soon by the Advisory Council.
