Guinea: Arrests, dismissals and rehabilitation
The army Chief of Staff, Nouhoum Thiam, installed in the “Sékoutouréya” palace since the start of the Guinean presidential campaign, was ordered to leave by General Sékouba Konaté. It is also known that Mr. Tibou Camara, secretary general of the presidency would become too cumbersome and would be on shaky grounds since the results were announced on July the 3rd by the CNEI.
The acting president has received several influential members of the political parties and civil society that required Tibou Camara’s departure in order to observe a good second round of the presidential elections.
The former minister, Colonel Tiegoro Camara, dismissed after a drug trafficking case, has been appointed by General Sékouba Konaté as the head of the National agency against banditry and drug trafficking. His head was wanted by the drug cartel in 2009, in the aftermath of the “Augean” Operation organised by the Guinean authorities and supported by international institutions. While Ousmane Conté, son of General Lansana Conté, imprisoned for a year because of drug traffic, has been released on temporary freedom.
