Sudan: Commitment for a peaceful solution in Darfur
Mohammed Atta. Muammar Gaddafi and Omar Al-Bashir should discuss their bilateral relations, recently cooled by the case Khalil Ibrahim. Libya hosted the rebel leader following his expulsion from Chad on mid-May, and Sudan had asked his extradition and appeals to Interpol, before closing its border crossing with Libya, on July 1.
During his meeting with Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, the Sudanese president said his government is engaged in seeking a peaceful solution to the Darfur problem, and he will make efforts to bring peace and thus restore the stability throughout the country. He also thanked President Gaddafi and his country for their support in efforts to resolve the problem.
Gaddafi said for his part that Libya would continue to support efforts to restore peace in Sudan as well as peace and stability in the region.
The Sudanese president visited Libya several times despite the arrest warrant issued against him in March 2009 by the International Criminal Court for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur.
