The outgoing president seems assured of his re-election. Paul Kagamé says he will leave power “without hesitation” if he would fail on the Monday ballot, in which he is considered the most favourite.

Paul Kagamé is facing three candidates from smaller parties which had supported him in 2003. His re-election is of no doubt. The election campaign has been very tense in recent months punctuated by the murder of several journalists and political opponents. Amnesty International is concerned about the deteriorating situation of human rights in Rwanda.
However, thousands of people gathered Saturday afternoon, in the vicinity of Kigali, for the final round of Paul Kagamé’s campaign. He was praised for all the projects realised for the country and the progress in all staged steps   obtained, especially in the security that prevails now, and the new place of women in Rwandan society.
The candidate Paul Kagamé danced for a while then addressed the crowd by declaring that “the new policy in Rwanda is not anymore for the Hutu, Tutsi or Twa, my policy is for all the Rwandans”. He stressed on the unity of the country, education, health, and justice.
