Libya/Nigeria: Towards a normalisation of relations
Nigeria and Libya would work together to strengthen the historical ties and cultural rights of their peoples, but also to increase and strengthen their political consultations at all levels. They also agreed to explore the creation of economic projects and strategic benefits to their peoples and to the continent. The two countries’ officials will exchange visits, at all levels to establish the framework for the achievement of objectives.
Thus, the two countries will normalise their diplomatic relations with the designation of their ambassadors within 14 days.
Nigeria had recalled its ambassador to Libya, Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed Isa in March for “consultation”, following the Libyan leader’s statement, calling the division of Nigeria into two Muslim and Christian states in order to curb the sectarian violence in the most populous country of Africa, counting 132 million of inhabitants, composed of 50.5% of Muslims, 48.2% of Christians and 1.8% of traditional beliefs.
