RCA/Chad: Charles Massi and its troubling disappearance
Under the auspices of the late President Omar Bongo of Gabon, a “peace agreement” was signed December 20, 2008, followed by a process of demobilisation, disarmament and reintegration of rebels. But all movements, led by Charles Massi, have not signed this agreement. Wearing his cap of insurgent, Massi left for Chad to negotiate a bilateral agreement with Bangui, this time under the aegis of N’Djamena leader, Idriss Déby. But betrayed by his guardsmen, Massi has fallen into a trap. This event is a chance to warm up the relations that have worsened between Chad and the RCA. Bangui has transferred then to N’Djamena the “General” Baba Ladd, the Chadian rebel refugee in the RCA, and N’Djamena made the gift of Charles Massi to Bangui. On the 16TH of December, a special detachment of the presidential guard went to Chad to bring back the prisoner. He was abducted in Chad in December and returned to the RCA authorities who allegedly tortured him to death.
It has been ten months without news from the Central African rebel leader who would be dead and evidences are accumulating and going in that way…
