Ivory Coast: Waiting for the results, but Rumours rife
The National Council of Audiovisual Communication (CNCA) has obliged the media to refrain from disseminating trends or results of the presidential election that would not be released by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).
The IEC has promised to start delivering the results available on Sunday at 23 o’clock … But for now it has given only results from Denmark, Germany and Belgium … which represent only 0.2% of the vote. The issue of the transmission and the dissemination of the results is so important to the degree that the candidate President Laurent Gbagbo has shown an emphasis on this theme when he voiced: “I am calling on all candidates to keep their supporters calm and await official results. The president says it is about respecting the law. He said, candidates should not make a spectacle of themselves by each proclaiming their own results. The IEC is the sole authority to declare interim results. After it, the Constitutional Council will announce the final results. If we respect the law and adhere to the requirements of the law, there will be no difficulties for the Ivory Coast. A successful vote here will help stability and economic development. However and in the absence of significant partial results, the “rumour mill” is running at full capacity. SMS, social networks and the telephones are used to communicate the different trends … waiting for a provisional announcement by the IEC.
