Ivory Coast: The credibility of the results is questioned

The Democratic Party of Côte d’Ivoire (PDCI) of the candidate Bédié doubts the credibility of the results, ranking him third in the first round.

The PDCI is denouncing the clear determination of tampering the results and requires the recount of the ballots. According to the provisional results announced by the IEC, Bédié has collected 25.24% of the vote against 32.08% for Alassane Ouattara and 38.3% for Laurent Gbagbo. The same party is denouncing the climate of opacity maintained by the IEC during the ballots and the counting process of the  votes. The representatives were not allowed to take part in the centralisation or the consolidation of the results as agreed. Djedje Mady, the Bedié’s campaign manager, said that in several localities of the country, including Soubré (south) and Grand-Bassam (south), some 10 000 votes  have been lost by his candidate in favour of the incumbent President Laurent Gbagbo, because of miscalculations. These are a few of many mistakes or events that explain the suspicion surrounding the results’ declaration, Djedjé added. All the candidates for the Ivory Coast presidential election had pledged to respect the election results and restrain of using undemocratic means in the event of any complaints. Would it be the case?
